Pangai, Lifuka Island, Kingdom of Tonga

Pangai is the administrative capital village of the Haʻapai Group in Tonga. This delightful village is set mid way on the protected west coast of the island of Lifuka. The village is centered around the catholic church Siasi Church and Holopeka Road by the harbor. There are only a few shops and markets, a bank and two restaurants. There are few historic sites besides the church and a few Colonial styled houses.

The village is typically Tongan, with pigs wandering about the streets, small plantations at the back of the houses and fishing boats in the lagoon. The coast to the south and east of the village is virtually empty of settlement and offers the best beaches, although those on the more exposed east coast do not offer good swimming or snorkelling.
